Queen, You Bettah Automate Or You Will Decimate
Mar 25, 2020Automation and creating systems saved my business. And it never stops, I’m heading into year five, and it’s still as important as ever.
If you’re an entrepreneur like me, or you are responsible for running a business, you’ll want to pay close attention. The sad reality is that almost half of new companies fail in the first five years.
This is mostly due to lack of funding, flexibility to adapt to the market and customer needs, and one of my favorites, planning. Let’s make sure you don’t become another dismal statistic.
Why Should I Have Systems?
Do you find yourself running by the clock? We all have exactly the same amount of hours every day. How do you spend yours?
If you are an emerging entrepreneur, time is something you must get right. Time is money, and if you don’t invest in strategies to save time, be ready for your money to disappear pretty quickly.
So, if you can save time by using a system to automate a task, why wouldn't you? This frees up your time to focus on what you’re good at, making sure you are more efficient in the business.
For many startup entrepreneurs, burnout can often be too close for comfort. But if you want to relieve your stress and overwhelm - make sure you have effective business systems. They take the pressure off you or allow you to bring in outside help to get things done.
Business systems can help you quickly grow and scale. This is something I wholeheartedly believe - if you are ready to get out of your comfort zone and move into greatness, have everything automated and you will be prepared for expansion when the time is right.
What are the Pitfalls of Running My Business?
How often do you check your emails? What about being constantly interrupted by other people’s “urgent” dramas? How much time do you actually spend being focused?
If you get caught up in all of the chaos that often comes with being an emerging entrepreneur, you may find your business in crisis mode.
When you don’t set boundaries in your business, you are opening yourself up to tremendous inefficiencies, with your ‘to-do’ list growing longer every day.
Are you impatient with your growth? Scaling too quickly without systems in place is a sure-fire way to fail. It’s worth taking more time, in the beginning, to set things up so you can scale with impact.
Imagine if you can’t meet the needs of your new customers because you don’t have time to answer their questions, you’ll lose them quicker than you found them.
Automation will not only save your business but will help you step into your greatness.
Have you become really skilled at keeping everything in your head, and not telling others when you need help?
That’s a pretty common trait of startup leaders, we seem to think that if we want something done well, we’ll just have to do it ourselves. The truth is, letting things be, rather than trying to control every aspect, is an integral part of running your business.
But first, you need systems. If sufficient systems are in place, you can surrender a little and trust the work will be done, knowing the structures are there to back you up.
Automate, Automate, Automate
With the necessary structures in place, you can focus on the things that really matter, and you’ll have more time to do the things you do best.
But how can you automate? Where do you start?
Start with the simplest tasks, ask yourself these questions:
- How do my potential clients first experience my brand?
- How do I process emails?
- How do I schedule conference calls?
Create a workflow for every interaction you have with a potential client/customer
If you want to nurture your creativity and innovation, you need to automate every possible step in the client lifecycle.
Think about your client experience from start to finish and write down every single step.
Look at your list and figure out where you get lost, what you don’t have time for, things you can delegate, and tasks you find cumbersome.
These are the processes you need to automate.
What tools can you use to automate?
There are a few key tools that saved me as an emerging entrepreneur.
By implementing great startup strategies, I was able to automate and scale my business. You can access this knowledge, my experience and the reasons why I love these products, in my exclusive list of strategies here.
What if you really don’t know how to get started?
If you feel like you are stuck in the weeds, the best thing to do is hire a professional who can help you see the bigger picture. Whether it's a coach, a business strategist or enrolling in a course or program, just do something.
The worst thing for a new business owner is to be paralyzed by overwhelm. The number one thing I help my clients with is a strategy to create solid business systems while assisting them to focus on building a profit.
I get it, I know what it’s like being an entrepreneur, some of us find it hard to ask for help, but if you want to grow and scale, you have to get help.
I would not have scaled my side hustle to a profitable business without the help of my coaches, Follow me on Instagram, where I give them regular shoutouts.
Do or Die? You Won’t Multiply
Do you remember the animated comedy movie from 1992, “BeBe’s Kids”?
I know, I know, don’t judge me, it was truly a mess, but there’s something to learn from it. The kids were running ragged around a theme park, driving their Mom’s date crazy. One of their famous lines was “Bebe’s Kids, we don’t die, we multiply.”
It’s crazy what I remember as a kid, but it reminds me that running a business is simple: if you don’t create systems and learn how to automate your business, you will stay in chaos and not ‘multiply’ -- or scale and build a profitable business, or ‘make those coins, sis!’
This is a do or die, come to your senses moment.
It’s time to get real. Whether you are just starting your company or have had your business for several years, you must take the time to create systems so you can enjoy the organizational flow.
If you have no idea where to start, get down to the nitty-gritty and invest in a coach or a program that can help you learn. It was the best decision I ever made, and it’s how I grew my healthcare business from a small offering to a whopping six figures.
It’s also given me space, time and energy to rebrand and pivot into other ways to contribute and grow my business even further.
I'm so happy I’ve found the formula for success.
